Payment of the ticket with the contactless bank card, directly at the validator, in the means of public transport, is a project to diversify payment methods in the means of public transport, implemented by the City Hall of the Capital, through Societatea de Transport București – STB SA, in collaboration with BCR and its partner, S&T. This payment method offers more flexibility to all passengers, as it allows payment for the journey with any contactless Mastercard, Maestro or Visa, issued anywhere in the world. The contactless validators are of the latest generation and allow validating the bank cards (including the one registered on the mobile phone or watch with digital wallet) by approaching the contactless sign. In addition, in Otokar/Mercedes Citaro hybrid buses and in Astra Imperio trams, contactless validators allow both bank card and transport card validation. The transaction takes place in a completely secure environment. The fare for a trip is the one provided in the tariff offer of STB SA, without commission or other taxes, regardless of the type of card used. The payment of the metropolitan trip allows the use of all means of public surface transport in the Bucharest-Ilfov Region, within the limit of 90 minutes. If the validity of the travel ticket expires before the entire journey is made with public transport, it is necessary to pay for a new journey, by validating the card, in order to continue the journey. In all new buses and trams (Otokar/Mercedes Citaro hybrid buses and Astra Imperio trams), the transaction is confirmed by the 4 LEDs of the validator lighting up, followed by a short beep and the message “Have a nice trip!” displayed on the validator screen. For the validators in the rest of the vehicles, the transaction is confirmed by the message “APPROVED”, displayed on the green screen of the validator. The successive lighting of the 4 LEDs of the validator confirms the correct reading of the data on the card and the initiation of the transaction. If the terminal screen turns red and the message „DECLINAT” (“REJECTED”) is displayed, the transaction has not been approved and the trip must be paid for by alternative means. Multiple validations can only be performed by choosing the dedicated option, so there is no risk of multiple validations by accidentally touching the card to the validator. In Otokar/Mercedes Citaro hybrid buses and in Astra Imperio trams, multiple validation is performed by pressing the “+” button, and on other vehicles (older), the operation is performed by pressing the “Start” key, after the card has been previously validated for one person. At the request of the control agents, travelers must show the card close to the equipment on which it was validated (in Otokar/Mercedes Citaro hybrid buses and in Astra Imperio trams) or to communicate the last 4 digits of the card of the control agents (in the old vehicles), so that they can check whether the travel payment has been made.
Transport cards can be recharged online here.

24Pay app allows the purchase of transport tickets using mobile phone by enrolling the bank card. The security of the transaction is ensured by Mastercard/Visa technology. You can use the 24Pay app even if you have not purchased a transport card and the tickets purchased through the app are automatically activated, after the confirmation of the transaction is received, without validating the tickets inside the public transport vehicles. The tickets are saved in the app, in the “History” section, and thus can be presented for verification to the control team. The prices for the trips are the ones set out in the STB SA price list, without commission or other charges, regardless of the type of card one uses. Attention! The payment must be done before boarding the public transport vehicle, and in order to allow the STB SA ticket inspectors to verify the validity of the tickets, please make sure that your phone’s battery will be loaded throughout the trip. Download the app from Google Play, App Store, App Gallery or by scanning the QR code displayed on the public transport vehicles.
