The Velo Masterplan of the Municipality of Bucharest (MPVB)
The Velo Masterplan of the Municipality of Bucharest (MPVB) is a strategic document that aims to present possible solutions, suggestions, or recommendations regarding the configuration of bicycle lane infrastructure at the level of the Municipality of Bucharest. It proposes the following categories of bicycle lanes: primary velo network – main routes and secondary velo network – collector routes. The routes, both primary and secondary, proposed through the MPVB have a suggestive role, with their exact alignment to be determined through technical-economic documentation developed based on specialized studies that confirm the feasibility of the investment.
The Bucharest Velo Masterplan went through a public consultation phase during which citizens and interested institutions were able to submit observations and proposals, which were analyzed and integrated, where appropriate, into the final version of the document. Currently, the MPVB is approved by Decision no. 275/30.07.2025 of the General Council of the Municipality of Bucharest and constitutes the official reference framework for the development of velo infrastructure at the level of the Municipality of Bucharest. The Intercommunity Development Association for Public Transport Bucharest-Ilfov (TPBI) has been designated as the entity responsible for managing and coordinating the implementation of the MPVB, monitoring the implementation of the included measures and projects.
