The Bucharest–Ilfov Intercommunity Development Association for Public Transport (TPBI) was one of the key players in the regional meeting on sustainable urban mobility, held yesterday under the auspices of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and ALMEC Corporation. The event brought together cities from the Balkan region and prestigious partners from Japan in a dialogue focused on modern and sustainable solutions for public transport development.

At the event, TPBI presented a best-practice example in public transport service management and integrated urban mobility, being one of the few public transport organizations invited from outside the Balkan region. TPBI’s participation reflects international recognition of the efforts made in the Bucharest–Ilfov region to develop a modern, efficient, and citizen-oriented public transport system.

The meeting, organized with the support of JICA and ALMEC Corporation, provided a valuable platform for sharing experiences and strengthening cooperation among local authorities, transport operators, mobility experts, and academic institutions from Japan and the Balkans. Among the attending partners were:

  • High-level representatives of the Japanese Government, including Her Excellency, Mrs. Setsuko KAWAHARA, Ambassador of Japan;

  • Official delegations from Skopje, Sarajevo, Pristina, and Tirana;

  • Representatives of the Toyama city administration, Toyama University, Toyama Chihou Railway transport operator, as well as the International Association of Public Transport (UITP).

The discussions focused on key topics for urban development: updating local action plans, mechanisms for bilateral cooperation, and the implementation of public-private partnerships in public transport.

TPBI expresses its appreciation for the opportunity to contribute to this international dialogue and for the support offered by JICA and ALMEC Corporation in promoting innovative solutions in urban mobility.

The event reaffirms the importance of international collaboration and knowledge transfer to address common challenges faced by cities in the region and to build a sustainable urban future.
