The Association of Romanian Municipalities (AMR) announces that local authorities are preparing to remove abandoned cars from public property. This action is part of the National Strategy on the Circular Economy, approved by Government Decision no. 1172/2022 and coordinated by the Ministry of Economy, Digitization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MEDAT).
Public authorities are carrying out an information and education campaign to raise owners’ awareness about the economic and environmental impact generated by unused vehicles. Owners are informed about the benefits of reusing vehicles by transferring ownership to a new owner, as well as the advantages of recycling through scrapping programs when vehicles can no longer be safely used. At the same time, vehicle owners are informed about the necessity to pay the compulsory motor vehicle liability insurance (RCA) throughout the entire period the vehicle exists, regardless of whether it is used or not.
These actions, including public information campaigns, will take place throughout 2025 and 2026.
