Call Name: Component C10 – Local Fund, I.1 – Sustainable Urban Mobility:

  • I.1.2 – Ensuring infrastructure for green transport – ITS/other ICT infrastructures

Project Title: Modernization and expansion of the intelligent traffic light system (Bucharest-Ilfov Traffic Management) and prioritization of public transport vehicles to enhance road safety, improve traffic flow, and reduce pollution – Phases II and III

Implementation Period: 09.01.2023 – 30.06.2026

Description:
The project’s general objective is to implement an Integrated Traffic Management System at the metropolitan level, aiming to improve traffic flow, reduce pollution, enhance road safety, and promote public transport. It focuses on modernizing and expanding the existing traffic management system for all signalized intersections in the Bucharest-Ilfov region, as well as developing a modern Integrated Traffic Management Center.

Project Phases:

  • Modernization of the Traffic Management Center – This phase includes upgrading software and hardware infrastructure, as well as integrating new functionalities required to connect all intersections included in the project.

  • Expansion and optimization of the BTMS system – The infrastructure of approximately 185 intersections already included in the system will be modernized, addressing various technical issues (e.g., lack of fiber optic connections, non-functional inductive loops). Additionally, modern vehicle detection solutions such as video cameras and magnetic sensors will be implemented to improve traffic management.

Through these measures, the project will significantly contribute to improving urban mobility, reducing traffic congestion, and enhancing road safety, thereby strengthening a modern and efficient metropolitan transport system.
