Project Title: Modernization and expansion of the intelligent traffic light system in intersections and prioritization of special-purpose vehicles – public transport, ambulances, fire trucks, and police – to enhance road safety and reduce pollution.
Implementation Period: 06.01.2023 – 30.06.2026
Description:
The project’s general objective is to implement an Integrated Traffic Management System at the metropolitan level, aiming to improve traffic flow, reduce pollution, enhance road safety, and promote public transport. It focuses on modernizing and expanding the existing traffic management system for all signalized intersections in the Bucharest-Ilfov region, as well as establishing a modern Integrated Traffic Management Center.
In the first implementation phase, the project plans to modernize and integrate intersections located along five main traffic corridors in Bucharest. This phase will cover approximately 85 intersections, including:
-
48 intersections integrated into BTMS
-
28 intersections operating in local mode
-
9 unsignalized intersections
The exact number of intersections subject to intervention will be determined following the feasibility study, which is an integral part of the project.
