Program name: Interreg Europe
Project title: Cooperative information platform for low carbon and sustainable mobility
Project acronym: CISMOB
Implementation period: April 1 2016 – March 31 2020. Extended from 1 October 2021 – 31 March 2023
Description: The main vision of CISMOB was to promote innovative methods for reducing the carbon footprint and increasing the sustainability of urban areas by improving the efficiency of urban transport infrastructure through information and communication technologies (ICT).
In a context where sensor technology has become increasingly available for monitoring and recording large amounts of data, a common challenge for decision-makers was identifying the best practices for leveraging these new data sources. These were used to prioritize intervention areas, efficiently manage existing road networks, inform citizens, and motivate them to adopt more sustainable mobility options.
CISMOB focused on improving the implementation of regional policies and local mobility programs through a deep understanding of various transport-related impacts and the main vulnerabilities associated with different areas of the territory. CISMOB partners believed that local mobility policies and programs should not focus solely on minimizing a specific parameter (e.g., congestion level), but rather promote holistic approaches capable of answering the questions: What (needs to be minimized)? Why? When? Where? And how? Regional and policy tools also provided a framework of indicators for evaluating and informing about the costs and benefits of the ecological efficiency of different mobility solutions.
CISMOB integrated a set of cities and regions with heterogeneous characteristics, represented by institutions with complementary profiles. All partners cooperated to learn best practices for the sustainable management of urban transport. Workshops, staff exchange programs, and dissemination activities were organized to share local experiences, learn best practices, and increase citizen involvement.
During the project extension period, CISMOB partners carried out activities and experience exchanges to adapt to the new post-COVID-19 mobility paradigm, aiming to support the regions they belong to in developing effective policy tools.
